Venue: Higher-seed campus site; Indiana Farmers Coliseum (Indianapolis, Indiana)

Defending Champion: Wright State

Both Wright State and Northern Kentucky have won five of the last six years, with Cleveland State winning in 2021. The Raiders or the Norse have appeared in eight of the last 10 Horizon League Championship games. The No. 1 seed has only won this event once over the last seven years.

Patriot League Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Feb. 28th, Mar. 2nd, Mar. 5th & Mar. 8th
Venue: Higher-seed campus site

Defending Champion: Colgate

Colgate has reached five straight championships in the Patriot League Tournament. They have won three of those five including the last two. Colgate has actually won each of their last three championship games by a double-digit point total, clearly the top team in this conference lately.

Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Feb. 28th, Mar. 2nd, Mar. 4th & Mar. 6th
Venue: Pensacola Bay Center (Pensacola, Florida)

Defending Champion: Georgia State

This is typically Georgia State’s to own. The Panthers have won three Sun Belt Championship games over the last four years, while also appearing in six of the last eight. That shouldn’t be the case this season however, as the Panthers are having a bad season. Expect a new champion in 2023.

2023 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Odds

  • Louisiana +360
  • James Madison +380
  • Southern Miss +450

Big South Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 1st, Mar. 3rd & Mar. 5th
Venue: Bojangles Coliseum (Charlotte, North Carolina)

Defending Champion: Longwood

Winthrop has reached the Big South Championship game in three straight seasons. They have also been to seven of the last nine championships. The Eagles are down this season however, as last year’s winner Longwood might see back-to-back wins. UNC Asheville, Radford and Gardner-Webb are also good picks for 2023.

NEC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 1st, Mar. 4th & Mar. 7th
Venue: Higher-seed campus site

Defending Champion: Bryant

Bryant won its first NEC Championship last year after falling short in the championship to Mount Saint Mary’s the year prior. There has been a different winner in the NEC Tournament each year over the past five seasons, with Mt. St. Mary’s winning the most frequently. They have won three of the last nine NEC Tournaments, more times in that span than any other school.

They are no longer in the conference though, meaning Fairleigh Dickinson is the most consistent event winner among active schools. FDU has won the NEC Tournament twice over the last seven years.

OVC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 1st, Mar. 2nd, Mar. 3rd & Mar. 4th
Venue: Ford Center (Evansville, Indiana)

Defending Champion: Murray State

Murray State has 18 OVC Tournament Championships and is last year’s winner. The Racers are down this season though. Expect a different school to take the OVC this season, although Murray State has won the tournament three of the last five years.

MVC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 2nd, Mar. 3rd, Mar. 4th & Mar. 5th
Venue: Enterprise Center (St. Louis, Missouri)

Defending Champion: Loyola-Chicago

With Loyola-Chicago now in the A-10, this is between Bradley and Drake for the MVC crown. Both schools have been second-fiddle to Loyola for close to five years now, while UNI is also a solid program in this event. Drake, however, has lost back-to-back championships to Loyola following Bradley back-to-back championship wins in 2019-20.

WCC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 2nd, Mar. 3rd, Mar. 4th, Mar. 6th & Mar. 7th
Venue: Orleans Arena (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Defending Champion: Gonzaga

Gonzaga has won this tournament three straight times, along with nine of the last 10 years. The Bulldogs run the WCC Tournament, with 61 total wins in this event while the second-highest school is Pepperdine with 36. They have 20 total WCC Championships but 2023 might see Saint Mary’s, or another school, dethrone them.

CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 3rd, Mar, 4th, Mar. 5th, Mar. 6th & Mar. 7th
Venue: Entertainment & Sports Arena (Washington, D.C.)

Defending Champion: Delaware

There has been a different CAA winner in six straight years, with UNC Wilmington as the last two-time winner over the last seven seasons. Wilmington was actually in last year’s championship but lost to the Blue Hens. This seems to be Charleston’s to lose, as the Cougars even broke through for an AP Top 25 ranking during the 2023 season.

SoCon Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 3rd, Mar. 4th, Mar. 5th & Mar. 6th
Venue: Harrah’s Cherokee Center (Asheville, North Carolina)

Defending Champion: Chattanooga

This event is typically between two schools, Chattanooga and ETSU. Recently though, more SoCon schools have stepped up to compete such as Furman, UNC Greensboro and Wofford. UNCG is the most recent two-time winner with SoCon Championships in 2018 and 2021.

Summit League Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 3rd, Mar. 4th, Mar. 5th, Mar. 6th & Mar. 7th
Venue: Denny Sanford Premier Center (Sioux Falls, South Dakota)

Defending Champion: South Dakota State

North Dakota State has been to four straight Summit League Championships, but 2023 might be different. Oral Roberts has over 20 wins while South Dakota State is also playing very well. South Dakota State has won four of the last seven Summit League Tournaments.

America East Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 4th, Mar. 7th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Higher-seed campus site

Defending Champion: Vermont

The America East is typically Vermont’s to lose, winning three of the last five tournaments. Vermont has also reached five of the last six America East Championship games. The Catamounts can’t ever win back-to-back however, with their last back-to-back reign coming in 2004 & 2005. If that trend continues, Vermont won’t win in 2023 as they won last season.

Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 4th, Mar. 5th, Mar. 6th, Mar. 7th & Mar. 8th
Venue: Idaho Central Arena (Boise, Idaho)

Defending Champion: Montana State

Eastern Washington is the most consistent school in the Big Sky Tournament. They have also had a solid 2023 season, along with Montana State. EWU has reached the Big Sky Championship in three of the last four seasons and four of the last seven. Montana State has reached the Big Sky Championship back-to-back years now, but lost to EWU in 2021.

Southland Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 5th, Mar. 6th, Mar. 7th & Mar. 8th
Venue: Legacy Center (Lake Charles, Louisiana)

Defending Champion: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi seems primed to win another Southland Tournament with a solid 2023 so far. The Islanders beat SELA in last year’s event, and have actually reached the Southland Championship in three of the last six seasons.

ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Greensboro Coliseum (Greensboro, North Carolina)

Defending Champion: Virginia Tech

Recent ACC winners have been, odd, to say the least. Virginia Tech won last year after Georgia Tech won in 2021. FSU has also reached the ACC Championship game in two of the last three seasons. It’s safe to say none will be there in 2023. Duke has won two of the last five ACC Championships and has been to four of the last eight championship games.

A-10 Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: Barclays Center (Brooklyn Center)

Defending Champion: Richmond

VCU has owned the A-10 Tournament over the years, although St. Bonaventure has done well recently. The Bonnies have reached two of the last three A-10 Championship games, winning in 2021 over VCU. The Rams of Virginia Commonwealth have been to six of the last nine A-10 Championship games.

Big West Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Dollar Loan Center (Henderson, Nevada)

Defending Champion: Cal State Fullerton

Cal State Fullerton has been to three of the last four Big West Tournament Championship games. UC Irvine has been to four of the last five, as the two schools have combined for four of the last seven championships.

UCSB has actually won three of their last four Big West Championship games that they’ve played in. If the Gauchos actually get to the final then history is on their side to win it.

MAAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Boardwalk Hall (Atlantic City, New Jersey)

Defending Champion: Saint Peter’s

Saint Peter’s won the 2022 MAAC Tournament only to go on a huge run in the March Madness Tournament. This is Iona’s tournament to lose however, winning five straight MAAC Championships prior to the Peacock 2022 season. Iona has also been to eight of the last 10 MAAC Championship games.

WAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Michelob ULTRA Arena; Orleans Arena (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Defending Champion: New Mexico State

The WAC has seen a lot of new teams enter lately, while top dog New Mexico State actually suspended its 2023 season. This is usually the Aggies to win, appearing in 10 straight WAC Championship games. Grand Canyon has appeared in three of the last four however, winning in 2021.

Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: T-Mobile Center (Kansas City, Missouri)

Defending Champion: Kansas

Compared to many conferences, the Big 12 Tournament is still somewhat immature beginning in 1997. Kansas has typically dominated throughout, winning 12 titles in 15 championship appearances. Iowa State is a perfect 5-0 in Big 12 Championship games though, a good pick if they make it in.

Despite the Jayhawks’ dominance, their last back-to-back Big 12 Championship reign was in 2010 and 2011. Iowa State and Kansas have combined for seven of the last eight Big 12 Championships, with Texas winning in 2021.

Big East Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Madison Square Garden (New York, New York)

Defending Champion: Villanova

This tournament has a lot of history, with many schools no longer in the conference. Lately, however, Villanova has run through the Big East. The Wildcats have won five of the last seven championships, but are unlikely to do so in 2023.

Creighton has lost back-to-back Big East Championship games, while also losing the final against Nova in 2017. The Bluejays might be a good dark horse for 2023 though. Loaded with plenty of contenders and a down Villanova team, the Big East Tournament is wide open for 2023.

Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th, Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: United Center (Chicago, Illinois)

Defending Champion: Iowa

Michigan has found itself in the Big Ten Championship game three times over the last five seasons. With that said, there has been a different Big Ten Tournament winner each of the last four seasons. Both 5 and 3 seem to be the lucky numbers, as a No. 5 or a No. 3 seed have reached the Big Ten Championship game in four straight years.

CUSA Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Ford Center at The Star (Frisco, Texas)

Defending Champion: UAB

The CUSA Tournament has seen a different champion over the last five years. Western Kentucky, however, has reached the final three of the last four years – losing all three times. UAB won last year and is in a good position to do so again, although FAU has been nationally ranked twice this season.

MEAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Norfolk Scope (Norfolk, Virginia)

Defending Champion: Norfolk State

Norfolk State dominates the MEAC Tournament, as the hosting school since 2013. The Spartans have won two straight MEAC Championship games along with appearing in four of the last five. N.C. Central is the only school to compete with them in the MEAC Tournament, winning three straight championships from 2017-2019 and another in 2014.

Mountain West Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Thomas & Mack Center (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Defending Champion: Boise State

The San Diego State Aztecs have quietly run through the Mountain West Tournament. They have seen five straight MW Championship appearances, along with eight of the last nine. The Aztecs have lost six of their last eight MW Championship games, however. Utah State has won two of the last four MW Championships, while Boise State won in 2022.

Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: T-Mobile Arena (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Defending Champion: Arizona

The Pac-12 Tournament has been quite nutty to say the least. Seven different schools have reached the Pac-12 Championship game over the last five years. Arizona and Oregon have seen the most consistent results in the event. The Wildcats have won four of the last seven championships, while the Ducks have been to five title games over the last nine seasons.

SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th, Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: Bridgestone Arena (Nashville, Tennessee)

Defending Champion: Tennessee

Tennessee has been a quiet threat in the SEC Tournament, usually the hosting state. The Vols have been to three of the last four SEC Championship games, winning in 2022. Kentucky saw a nice four-year title run between 2015-2018, but haven’t reached the final since.

SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Bartow Arena (Birmingham, Alabama)

Defending Champion: Texas Southern

Despite Prairie View dominating the regular-season, Texas Southern is the SWAC Tournament darling. Texas Southern has won six of the last eight tournaments. Prairie View has won the regular-season in three of the last four seasons, but only won the SWAC Tournament once in that span.

AAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th, Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: Dickies Arena (Fort Worth, Texas)

Defending Champion: Houston

The American Tournament is the youngest of the major conferences, beginning in 2014. Houston and Cincinnati have each seen two championships each over the last four seasons. The Bearcats have reached the AAC Championship game in four of the last five seasons. Houston has reached the final four straight times, and seems to be a lock for five in 2023.

MAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse (Cleveland, Ohio)

Defending Champion: Akron

Buffalo has won two of the last four MAC Championships, along with four of the last seven. The Bulls have also been to three of the last four title games. Akron has been to three MAC Championship games over the last six years, winning in 2022. The Zips also went on a nice run between 2007-2013, appearing in seven straight title games and winning three.

Ivy League Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: Jadwin Gym (Princeton, New Jersey)

Defending Champion: Yale

The Ivy League Tournament is one of the youngest conference tournaments in the country, as the regular-season champion would receive the automatic bid. That was until 2017 when the Ivy League implemented a four-team playoff, played to this day. Yale has won the last two events, going to three title games over the last four events. Harvard has been to two of the last three Ivy League Championship games, but lost both.

Horizon League Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Feb. 28th, Mar. 2nd, Mar. 6th & Mar. 7th

Entering the Horizon League tournament, Antoine seems genuine when he insists he’s more focused on “winning games than the record.”

“The more games we play, the better chance I have to break it,” he said.

They have won three of the last nine NEC Tournaments, more times in that span than any other school.

They are no longer in the conference though, meaning Fairleigh Dickinson is the most consistent event winner among active schools. FDU has won the NEC Tournament twice over the last seven years.

America East Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 4th, Mar. 7th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Higher-seed campus site

Defending Champion: Vermont

The America East is typically Vermont’s to lose, winning three of the last five tournaments. Vermont has also reached five of the last six America East Championship games. The Catamounts can’t ever win back-to-back however, with their last back-to-back reign coming in 2004 & 2005. If that trend continues, Vermont won’t win in 2023 as they won last season.

Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 4th, Mar. 5th, Mar. 6th, Mar. 7th & Mar. 8th
Venue: Idaho Central Arena (Boise, Idaho)

Defending Champion: Montana State

Eastern Washington is the most consistent school in the Big Sky Tournament. They have also had a solid 2023 season, along with Montana State. EWU has reached the Big Sky Championship in three of the last four seasons and four of the last seven. Montana State has reached the Big Sky Championship back-to-back years now, but lost to EWU in 2021.

Southland Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 5th, Mar. 6th, Mar. 7th & Mar. 8th
Venue: Legacy Center (Lake Charles, Louisiana)

Defending Champion: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi seems primed to win another Southland Tournament with a solid 2023 so far. The Islanders beat SELA in last year’s event, and have actually reached the Southland Championship in three of the last six seasons.

ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Greensboro Coliseum (Greensboro, North Carolina)

Defending Champion: Virginia Tech

Recent ACC winners have been, odd, to say the least. Virginia Tech won last year after Georgia Tech won in 2021. FSU has also reached the ACC Championship game in two of the last three seasons. It’s safe to say none will be there in 2023. Duke has won two of the last five ACC Championships and has been to four of the last eight championship games.

A-10 Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: Barclays Center (Brooklyn Center)

Defending Champion: Richmond

VCU has owned the A-10 Tournament over the years, although St. Bonaventure has done well recently. The Bonnies have reached two of the last three A-10 Championship games, winning in 2021 over VCU. The Rams of Virginia Commonwealth have been to six of the last nine A-10 Championship games.

Big West Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Dollar Loan Center (Henderson, Nevada)

Defending Champion: Cal State Fullerton

Cal State Fullerton has been to three of the last four Big West Tournament Championship games. UC Irvine has been to four of the last five, as the two schools have combined for four of the last seven championships.

UCSB has actually won three of their last four Big West Championship games that they’ve played in. If the Gauchos actually get to the final then history is on their side to win it.

MAAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Boardwalk Hall (Atlantic City, New Jersey)

Defending Champion: Saint Peter’s

Saint Peter’s won the 2022 MAAC Tournament only to go on a huge run in the March Madness Tournament. This is Iona’s tournament to lose however, winning five straight MAAC Championships prior to the Peacock 2022 season. Iona has also been to eight of the last 10 MAAC Championship games.

WAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 7th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Michelob ULTRA Arena; Orleans Arena (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Defending Champion: New Mexico State

The WAC has seen a lot of new teams enter lately, while top dog New Mexico State actually suspended its 2023 season. This is usually the Aggies to win, appearing in 10 straight WAC Championship games. Grand Canyon has appeared in three of the last four however, winning in 2021.

Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: T-Mobile Center (Kansas City, Missouri)

Defending Champion: Kansas

Compared to many conferences, the Big 12 Tournament is still somewhat immature beginning in 1997. Kansas has typically dominated throughout, winning 12 titles in 15 championship appearances. Iowa State is a perfect 5-0 in Big 12 Championship games though, a good pick if they make it in.

Despite the Jayhawks’ dominance, their last back-to-back Big 12 Championship reign was in 2010 and 2011. Iowa State and Kansas have combined for seven of the last eight Big 12 Championships, with Texas winning in 2021.

Big East Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Madison Square Garden (New York, New York)

Defending Champion: Villanova

This tournament has a lot of history, with many schools no longer in the conference. Lately, however, Villanova has run through the Big East. The Wildcats have won five of the last seven championships, but are unlikely to do so in 2023.

Creighton has lost back-to-back Big East Championship games, while also losing the final against Nova in 2017. The Bluejays might be a good dark horse for 2023 though. Loaded with plenty of contenders and a down Villanova team, the Big East Tournament is wide open for 2023.

Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th, Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: United Center (Chicago, Illinois)

Defending Champion: Iowa

Michigan has found itself in the Big Ten Championship game three times over the last five seasons. With that said, there has been a different Big Ten Tournament winner each of the last four seasons. Both 5 and 3 seem to be the lucky numbers, as a No. 5 or a No. 3 seed have reached the Big Ten Championship game in four straight years.

CUSA Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Ford Center at The Star (Frisco, Texas)

Defending Champion: UAB

The CUSA Tournament has seen a different champion over the last five years. Western Kentucky, however, has reached the final three of the last four years – losing all three times. UAB won last year and is in a good position to do so again, although FAU has been nationally ranked twice this season.

MEAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Norfolk Scope (Norfolk, Virginia)

Defending Champion: Norfolk State

Norfolk State dominates the MEAC Tournament, as the hosting school since 2013. The Spartans have won two straight MEAC Championship games along with appearing in four of the last five. N.C. Central is the only school to compete with them in the MEAC Tournament, winning three straight championships from 2017-2019 and another in 2014.

Mountain West Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Thomas & Mack Center (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Defending Champion: Boise State

The San Diego State Aztecs have quietly run through the Mountain West Tournament. They have seen five straight MW Championship appearances, along with eight of the last nine. The Aztecs have lost six of their last eight MW Championship games, however. Utah State has won two of the last four MW Championships, while Boise State won in 2022.

Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: T-Mobile Arena (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Defending Champion: Arizona

The Pac-12 Tournament has been quite nutty to say the least. Seven different schools have reached the Pac-12 Championship game over the last five years. Arizona and Oregon have seen the most consistent results in the event. The Wildcats have won four of the last seven championships, while the Ducks have been to five title games over the last nine seasons.

SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th, Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: Bridgestone Arena (Nashville, Tennessee)

Defending Champion: Tennessee

Tennessee has been a quiet threat in the SEC Tournament, usually the hosting state. The Vols have been to three of the last four SEC Championship games, winning in 2022. Kentucky saw a nice four-year title run between 2015-2018, but haven’t reached the final since.

SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 8th, Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Bartow Arena (Birmingham, Alabama)

Defending Champion: Texas Southern

Despite Prairie View dominating the regular-season, Texas Southern is the SWAC Tournament darling. Texas Southern has won six of the last eight tournaments. Prairie View has won the regular-season in three of the last four seasons, but only won the SWAC Tournament once in that span.

AAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th, Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: Dickies Arena (Fort Worth, Texas)

Defending Champion: Houston

The American Tournament is the youngest of the major conferences, beginning in 2014. Houston and Cincinnati have each seen two championships each over the last four seasons. The Bearcats have reached the AAC Championship game in four of the last five seasons. Houston has reached the final four straight times, and seems to be a lock for five in 2023.

MAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 9th, Mar. 10th & Mar. 11th
Venue: Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse (Cleveland, Ohio)

Defending Champion: Akron

Buffalo has won two of the last four MAC Championships, along with four of the last seven. The Bulls have also been to three of the last four title games. Akron has been to three MAC Championship games over the last six years, winning in 2022. The Zips also went on a nice run between 2007-2013, appearing in seven straight title games and winning three.

Ivy League Men’s Basketball Tournament

Dates: Mar. 11th & Mar. 12th
Venue: Jadwin Gym (Princeton, New Jersey)

Defending Champion: Yale

The Ivy League Tournament is one of the youngest conference tournaments in the country, as the regular-season champion would receive the automatic bid. That was until 2017 when the Ivy League implemented a four-team playoff, played to this day. Yale has won the last two events, going to three title games over the last four events. Harvard has been to two of the last three Ivy League Championship games, but lost both.

A few conferences have already set the stage for their tournaments, but the Power 5 and a few others wrap up regular season play this week. With March now here and everything on the line, several teams right on the bubble for a coveted spot in the NCAA Tournament play today. A win could push them in, while a loss could spell disaster. We’ve broken down a few of the best games to watch on Wednesday that will see teams make one final push to prove themselves ahead of conference tournament time.

Bubble Games to watch on March 1

No. 2 Alabama vs. Auburn

Time: 7:00 p.m. ET
TV: ESPN2
Alabama (25-4, 15-1 SEC, 2 NET) is set and will likely get a No. 1 seed, but Auburn (19-10, 9-7, 36 NET) is listed in ESPN’s Last Four Byes. The Tigers are projected to get a No. 10-11 range spot as things stand, but they face a tough opponent in the Crimson Tide before finishing the season against another challenging opponent in No. 12 Tennessee.
With so many teams joining them right on that bubble, back-to-back bad losses here could push Auburn out, even if they would be facing two of the best teams in the country. If they can’t pull one of these off, the pressure is on for the SEC Tournament. They bring a defense ranked in the top 20 in adjusted efficiency at KenPom.

Utah State vs. UNLV

Time: 11:00 p.m. ET
TV: CBSSN
Utah State (22-7, 11-5, 30 NET) currently rests in ESPN’s Next Four Out. Do they have a shot at worming their way in at this point? They could as the Aggies take on UNLV (17-11, 6-10 MWC, 90 NET) and Boise State to finish off the season. A pair of wins in those games could propel them to the right side of the bubble.
The Aggies have won their last three games in a conference that will receive several at-large bids into the tournament, and they will try to make themselves one of those bids in the coming week. They rank ahead of several Big Ten teams who are nearly guaranteed to make the tournament in the NCAA NET and are two spots behind No. 15 Indiana and one behind No. 13 Virginia, and their adjusted offensive efficiency ranks in the top 20 at KenPom.

Penn State vs. Northwestern

Time: 9:00 p.m. ET
TV: BTN
The Nittany Lions (17-12, 8-10 B1G, 60 NET) sit in CBS’ First Four Out and ESPN’s Next Four Out. As part of a Big Ten that will likely send the most at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament of any other conference, Penn State has faced some tough opponents, and close out the season against Northwestern (20-9, 11-7, 41 NET) and No. 21 Maryland.
Does Penn State control their own destiny here? It’s going to be something of an uphill climb, but beating one of the Big Ten’s top teams on the road would be a start to making a statement that they deserve to dance. If they lose today, though, their hopes may be dashed barring a deep run in the conference tourney.

The West Coast Conference bracket is set and will tip off on Thursday, March 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET from The Orleans Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The games will air on regional sports networks for the early rounds, before shifting to ESPN2 for the quarterfinals and semifinals, and finally ESPN for the championship game.

The bracket is a ladder format with 10 teams, which means that the top 2 seeds get a bye to the semifinal, seeds 3 and 4 get a bye to the quarterfinals, seeds 5 and 6 get a bye to the second round, and seeds 7 through 10 will play in the first round.

Both Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s are safely in the NCAA Tournament, and the only question is will one or both teams be on a protected top-four seed line. As for the other eight teams heading to Vegas, they’ll need to find a way to win the event to play in March Madness. And that means likely beating both SMC and the Zags on back-to-back nights, a very tall order. No team outside of The Big Two in the league has won the WCC Tournament since 2008, when the San Diego Toreros took home the trophy.

The No. 1 seed in the event was determined by the NCAA’s NET rankings on the morning of February 26 via this projection. Saint Mary’s was No. 7 and Gonzaga No. 9, so SMC will be the No. 1 seed and wear the white jerseys in Las Vegas.

The championship for the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament will feature the No. 2 Liberty Flames take on the No. 1 Kennesaw State Owls in the conference championship game on Sunday, March 5 at 3:00 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN2, and the winner will receive an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

No. 2 Liberty 24-7 (15-3 A-Sun), 39 NET, 44 KenPom

The Liberty Flames beat Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky to reach the Atlantic Sun conference championship game. Liberty’s offense ranks in the top 50 in adjusted offensive efficiency at KenPom, and their defense is not far behind. The Flames last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2021. Darius McGhee leads the team with 22.7 points per game.

No. 1 Kennesaw State 23-8 (15-3 A-Sun), 120 NET, 130 KenPom

Kennesaw State overcame Queens NC and Lipscomb to reach the championship game. The Owls have never been in the NCAA Division I Tournament. They are led by Chris Youngblood with 14.6 points per game and Brandon Stroud with 6.5 rebounds per game.

Kennesaw State beat Liberty 88-81 earlier this season.

Kennesaw State may have bested the Flames earlier this season, but Liberty is significantly better on both sides of the ball, and with a March Madness berth at stake, I’ll take the Flames to cover here.

The championship for the Big South Conference Tournament will feature the No. 1 UNC Asheville Bulldogs vs. the No. 7 Campbell Camels in the final game on Sunday, March 5 at 1 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN2, and the winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

No. 7 Campbell 16-17 (8-10 Big South), 238 NET, 231 KenPom

Campbell entered the week as a longshot to win the Big South Tournament and is just one victory away from cutting down the nets in Charlotte and earning its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1992. After opening the tournament with a win over Presbyterian on Wednesday, the Camels stunned favorite Longwood in an 81-68 victory on Friday. Going down to the wire with Radford in the semifinals on Saturday, a clutch Anthony Dell’Orso floater with 1.5 seconds lifted Campbell to a 72-71 win.

No. 1 UNC Asheville 26-7 (16-2 Big South), 138 NET, 148 KenPom

Led by senior forward Drew Pember, UNC Asheville has stood tall on top of the Big South all season and cruised to the regular season title. In the conference tournament, the Bulldogs took down Charleston Southern in the quarterfinals on Friday before narrowly avoiding an upset in a 66-62 triumph over USC Upstate on Saturday. A win on Sunday would earn Asheville its fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history and its first appearance since 2016.

UNC Asheville took both regular season matchups against Campbell, the first a 58-55 nailbiter on January 7 and the second a 78-65 victory on January 28.
